We received a complaint from a Francophone man who was late paying his property taxes and had to wait on the phone for an hour before he could speak to a bilingual agent.

We received a complaint from a Francophone man who was late paying his property taxes and had to wait on the phone for an hour before he could speak to a bilingual agent. After the call, the man tried to call again choosing English and was answered within minutes. We reported this situation to the Ministry of Finance, who explained that the wait for service in French was because an employee had not disconnected properly from the phone system. The employee was reminded of the proper procedures when taking calls, and the Ministry has committed to hiring additional full-time bilingual staff.
